Day 274/365- Luke 5:11

"No matter the cost"

And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus. (Luke 5:11 NLT)

Following Jesus requires leaving everything behind. For the disciples, this meant livelihood, family, familiarity, & comfort. They stepped out into the unknown. But they stepped out with Jesus.

Following Jesus always includes personal cost. We cannot hold onto us & take hold of him. We must leave our sin behind & follow him. We must sacrifice comfort for a cross. We must lay down self-centeredness for God-centeredness. Following Jesus costs us everything.

But this is only half of the verse. How many of us stop there in our reading & understanding? The second part of verse 11 says "And they followed him." They did leave everything they had but they got him! That trade off is a no-brainier. They received infinitely more than they left behind. There is nothing this world has to offer worth keeping ahold of & missing Jesus. He is better.

What's more, he gave up measurable more than we ever did to take hold of us. That kind of Savior is worth flowing, no matter the cost.
