Day 179/365- Hosea 10:12

"Break up your fallow ground"

I said, `Plant the good seeds of righteousness, & you will harvest a crop of love. Plow up the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come & shower righteousness upon you.' (Hosea 10:12 NLT)

This is what repentance looks like. It's not easy & it's never painless. Just like fallow ground, God's unrepentant people must do the hard work of breaking it up. Our hearts become hard & we are no longer sensitive to the words or things of God. We must allow the plow of his Spirit to break up the places that have failed to produce. Ground that is fallow is lying unproductive. It is useless & fruitless. It has nothing to show for its existence. Where have we become fallow? Where do we lack fruit?

The remedy for this is to not only break up the fallow ground of our hearts but to sow seeds of righteousness. In other words, obey & do the things you know to do. These things are clearly written in his Word. Seek the Lord! Pursue him! Love him & others. Speak to him in prayer & receive from him in his Word!

Have you ever seemed like things were fallow? Break up the ground. Seek the Lord. Do the things you know to obey him. Draw near to God. This is how God restores our fallow hearts back to him!
