"The Lord Still Loves"
Then the Lord said to me, "Go and love your wife again, even though she commits adultery with another lover. This will illustrate that the Lord still loves Israel, even though the people have turned to other gods and love to worship them." (Hosea 3:1 NLT)
The Lord still loves. Those are four of the best words written in the whole Bible. After all Israel has done to him, he still loves them. No matter how sinful they are, his love still pursues them. No matter how far they run away from him, he goes after them. Although they are unfaithful, they are still his bride & he has an undying commitment to them. They don't deserve a God so patient. They don't deserve a God so merciful. Thank God he doesn't give us what we deserve.
We can relate to these people. How many times have we run from the Lord? How many trinkets have we run off with leaving him behind? We have so many "gods" that we worship. We have so many gods that take the place of God in our lives. We give our time, joy, money, & attention to things & give the leftovers to God. He is the only one that deserves those things from us in the first place. But praise God that the Lord still loves us! Romans 5:8 says, "While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Even though we have sinned & continue to sin he love us & pursues us. And when we return, he doesn't lecture us but rather kisses us. What manner of love is this? It's a love beyond comprehension. A love that only God can give. The majority of marriages would end with this degree of unfaithfulness & many of us would never put up with this betrayal. But God endures it all because he loves us. He endures it all & died for us. No matter what, "nothing can separate us from the love of Christ!" And this type of love produces repentance in us. You would think it would cause us to take advantage of him but in reality a grace soaked heart is forever humbled by this unconditional pursuit.
