Day 112/365- 2 Samuel 3:36

"You Can't Please Everyone"

This pleased the people very much. In fact, everything the king did pleased them! (2 Samuel 3:36 NLT)

David is a man after God's own heart. He is God's chosen leader for his people. He experienced what few leaders did. Everything he did the Lord blessed. Including how the people viewed him.

In this passage, David has just mourned the untimely death of one of the commanders of Israel's army. The people are extremely pleased to see his compassion & genuine concern. Not only were they pleased with this timely concern but the Bible says everything he did pleased them.

I had to read this again.

EVERYTHING he did pleased them.

If only every leader was as fortunate as David. If only we lived our lives in such a way that our actions pleased everyone. Although this is extremely unlikely it is a noble thing to strive for. To be so above reproach & God-honoring that we have such favor with those we lead that everything we do is pleasing.

It has been said that anything a leader does is bound to make someone unhappy. This seems to be the case. However, let's strive to be the type of people that seek to please the Lord & others in everything we do. If we approach life & leadership with this type of intentionality we may not please everyone but we know our lives will be pleasing to God!
