Day 113/365-2 Samuel 5:19

"The Next Step"

So David asked the Lord , "Should I go out to fight the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?"
The Lord replied to David, "Yes, go ahead. I will certainly hand them over to you." (2 Samuel 5:19 NLT)

For David, this was a common occurrence. He frequently consulted the Lord about his life. Whenever he needed to make a decision he always asked the Lord. It was a day by day relationship that he had with his God. What's interesting is that God never gave the details of the next 5-10 years. He promised him that his kingdom would be established & that one would come from his lineage whose kingdom would never come to an end. But he didn't get the specifics. In fact, he always asked God about the next step in his life. He always asked God about the next step for the people.

This is God's heart for us. We don't know the five year plan. We don't know that the next ten years will bring. God has not laid out in specific detail what our lives will be like. He didn't do it with Abraham, Moses, or David & he doesn't do it with us. Abraham left his hometown not even knowing where he was going!

We need to have the perspective of David & just focus on the next step. What is the next step that God is calling me to make in my relationship with him? What is the next step he has for me?

This is what it means to walk with God & be obedient to his will for us. What next step is he calling us to take?
