Day 111/365- 2 Samuel 2:26

"Truth & Consequences"

Abner shouted down to Joab, "Must we always be killing each other? Don't you realize that bitterness is the only result? When will you call off your men from chasing their Israelite brothers?" (2 Samuel 2:26 NLT)

Israel asked for a king. God gave them a king. He was to be there king & rule over them but they would rather emulate the nations around them rather than be who God wanted them to be.

How's that going for them? Not so good as it turns out. After their first king turned out to be a train wreck, things haven't gotten much better. Rather than David simply becoming king after Saul, the kingdom divides. Soon, civil war breaks out with brother killing brother. So, how's that king thing working out?

This brings home the fact that every decision in life has consequences. Every decision has more consequences than we can imagine. We cannot know all of the consequences or look down the road & realize what they all will be. But, we can look at the Israelites & how their disobedience has affected them. Their actions & the results are enough to highly motivate us to obedience.

What are some consequences we have experienced in the past? How can we avoid them by simply obeying God where we are?
