Day 359/365- 1 John 2:15-17

"Live for forever"

Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever. (1 John 2:15-17 NLT)

There are so many things clamoring for our attention day in & day out. And what's worse, the loudest tend to be the most godless. The things that appeal to our flesh the strongest are the things that don't last. They are temporary & are gone in fleeting moments of pleasure before they are even enjoyed.

We have two choices when it comes to these fleeting pleasures. Indulge & be a part of feeling this vacuum of emptiness, or focus on the eternal & live. These temporary pleasures promise life but are simply lies that deliver emptiness. What really gives life & really satisfies is pleasing the Father.

Do our lives focus on the temporary? Are we living lives centered on pleasure? Are we seeking the world's values, experiences, & ideals? Or, are we focused on the eternal? Are we focused on the joy we find in God? Are we seeking to please him? Do we want to live & really experience true life?

If we find ourselves living for the temporary, life will be us trying to fill the emptiness with one fleeting pleasure after another. But if we are living for the eternal we will reject the temporary & embrace what really lasts.

Which one will we be?
