Day 357/365- 1 Peter 2:11

"This Means War"

Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls. (1 Peter 2:11 NLT)

John Piper & David Platt have referred to a luxury cruise liner that used to be a war time ship. When in war time, it could hold many more times the amount of people than when it is a luxury liner.

They talk about the church being similar. We approach life & the gospel & the church mostly as a luxury liner. All of those things exist for our comfort & enjoyment. But we forget that we are not in peace time but actually wartime. And this is what Peter reminds us of here. We are in war time & we must have a war time mentality.

There is an enemy that lives to steal, kill, & destroy us. He is doing whatever he can to derail the effort to expand the kingdom of God. So we must maintain a war time footing.

We do this by what Peter says in verse 11. "I warn you as temporary residents and foreigners.” We must remember that we are foreigners here. This is not our home. We are citizens of another country. Only then will we live like war time & for the mission of God & not the luxury of his people. This will affect us missionally, financially, relationally, & geographically (where we live).

Are we living with a war time mindset or a peace time mindset? How can we allow the Lord to change our perspective?
