Day 340/365- Acts 27:24-26

"Sovereignty & Shipwrecks"

"And he said, ‘Don’t be afraid, Paul, for you will surely stand trial before Caesar! What’s more, God in his goodness has granted safety to everyone sailing with you.’ So take courage! For I believe God. It will be just as he said. But we will be shipwrecked on an island.” (Acts 27:24-26 NLT)

It seems that Paul will never get to Rome. This ship seems persistent to deter him. But God is bigger than seas & ships. He is bigger than shipwrecks & snake bites. He is sovereign over all things, especially over Paul getting to Rome. Despite all of this opposition however, Paul does not once doubt God's will for him to get to Rome. He presses through every difficulty & makes it to Rome.

Similarly, we must realize God's will is not always the path of least resistance. In fact, it sometimes leads us to great resistance. For Paul to get the gospel to Rome meant putting his life in danger. He was willing to do it because the gospel is that important.

God is sovereign & he had already planned for Paul to go to Rome. So he had to endure no matter what came his way.

We must have the same commitment. We must be committed to do what we find clearly laid out for us in the Word of God no matter what difficulty we face along the way. We cannot allow roadblocks to discourage us. We must know from the outset that there will be difficulty & press through them, trusting God's sovereignty in the midst of shipwrecks.
