"The real heaven"
Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. (John 14:6 NLT)
Jesus tells his disciples that he is going away. They immediately begin thinking geography. Where is Jesus going? Are we not going to follow?
But Jesus tells them that where he is going has very little to do with geography & has everything to do with himself. They don't need a map to make it to Jesus, all they need is him.
This is John's pattern in his gospel. He is pointing everyone to Jesus. He IS the bread of life. He IS the light of the world. He IS the good shepherd. He IS the resurrection & the life. He IS the way, the truth, & the life. Life is not found in a destination but in a person.
John 17:3 says, "This is eternal life: that they may know you & Jesus Christ whom you have sent." Eternal life is not a place but a person.
We are not called to follow a creed or a set of religious rules but a person. We are not focused on a geographical location but on Jesus himself. The real treasure of heaven is not the place that it is but the person who makes it heaven to begin with.
