Day 259/365- Esther 7:9

"You reap what you sow"

Then Harbona, one of the king's eunuchs, said, "Haman has set up a sharpened pole that stands seventy-five feet tall in his own courtyard. He intended to use it to impale Mordecai, the man who saved the king from assassination."
"Then impale Haman on it!" the king ordered. (Esther 7:9 NLT)

"You made your bed, now you have to lie in it." How many times have we been told this or told someone this? We make choices & those choices have consequences. We live our lives & how we live has results. We reap what we sow.

No one knew this better than Haman. He spoke proudly about his accomplishments & his honor before the king only to be humbled. He made a pole to impale Mordecai on, only to be impaled himself. He lived in such a way that his pride & violence came back on his own head.

I used to think that there were some consequences for sin in my life but not in others. I just didn't see the connection. The issue was not that there weren't any consequences but that the timing is not always immediate. Just because we don't reap what we sow now, doesn't mean we won't. We can be sure, our sin will find us out. If we make a pole, odds are we will be impaled on it.

Thank God Christ has come to take away the punishment of sin. We may deal with consequences of sin but the penalty of our sin is paid in Jesus.

How are we living now? What consequences are we seeing from our lives, good or bad?
