Day 247/365- Daniel 4:37

"The way to up is down"

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble. (Daniel 4:37 ESV)

In our world, the way to reach the top is to work your way up. Fight, scratch, work, & get while the gettin's good. Not that there is anything inherently wrong with ambition or working hard. But, our culture says to do whatever it takes to get to the top.

Jesus even said that people that don't know him lord their positions over others. But he said it was not to be so with his followers. Greatness in his kingdom is about serving everyone. He didn't just talk this talk, he walked it. He served everyone in the most enormous way ever. He left heaven & came to earth. God became man. No one has ever embodied humility like the Son of God.

And so in God's kingdom, the way to up is down & the way to down is up.

Nebuchadnezzar came face to face with this reality. He exalted himself & took credit for his success which could have only come from God. He exalted himself & God humbled him. Jesus humbled himself & God exalted him.

So which one are we? Are we following in the footsteps of Nebuchadnezzar or Jesus? We are either headed for exaltation or humiliation.
