Day 241/365- Lamentations 5:19

"Keep the change"

But Lord, you remain the same forever! Your throne continues from generation to generation. (Lamentations 5:19 NLT)

It has been said the only thing constant in this world is change. Change is all around us. Change is inevitable.

I remember one of the most told corny, preacher jokes is about baptists. It goes something like this:

"How many baptists does it take to change a light bulb? Change?"

Many of us don't like change. We like routine & consistency. The people of God were experiencing change. That's an understatement. They were killed, exiled, rebuked, destroyed, & abandoned. All of this because of their sin. And yet one thing remained constant in the midst of such turmoil, God.

He remains the same forever. God doesn't change. And I find great hope & peace that no matter what change is happening in & around me for my good or not, God doesn't change. He is constant, consistent, & there!

Not only that, but he reigns. He is on his throne & that will never change. He is never surprised even though I'm shocked. When change is pressing in on us, he rules & reigns. When we are blindsided by unexpected circumstances, he still reigns. When we experience loss, he still reigns. When we don't know where to turn, he still reigns.

We change, he stays the same, & we desperately need him!
