Day 216/365- Zephaniah 3:17

"The God who sings"

The Lord your God is in your midst,
a mighty one who will save;
he will rejoice over you with gladness;
he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing. (Zephaniah 3:17 ESV)

What is it about music? Why are there only certain things that songs can express? Holidays have their songs. Religions have their songs. Relationships have their songs (good & bad relationships).

Music goes beyond words to the soul. Something about music & words combined with vocals that just gets down to the truth of whatever it is that's being sung about. It expresses what often conversation can't. It communicates something often words can't. It speaks of something deeper than lyrics. It speaks from the heart.

Did you know that God sings? Whether it's bass or tenor no one knows (not that he can't do both) but he does sing. Zephaniah 3:17 is communicating God's joy over his restored people. But that's not enough. It's not enough for God to just say he rejoices in his people. It's not enough to just use words. He uses song. He sings.

The emotion that we feel in a song I believe is a gift from God. It originated from him. He gave it to us to rejoice in him & to get a sense of how much he loves his own.

So the next time you go to sing to him, remember that it's a response to the song he has already sang over you!
