Day 215/365- Habbakuk 3:17-19

"God is enough"

Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights. (Habakkuk 3:17-19 NLT)

It's easy to love God in good times. Things are good with family, friends, work, & church. We give our tithe, attend regularly, & thank God for all his blessing in our lives. Life is good.

But what about when things are tough? What about when our marriage is struggling? What about when our teenager is going through a rebellious stage? What about when we lose our job? What about when we feel like we have to choose between giving to God & paying the bills. Loving God becomes a bit more challenging.

We have all been there. Anyone who has lived for any amount of time knows some amount of difficulty, disappointment, & confusion when it comes to God.

Why doesn't God heal our sick relative? Why doesn't God meet our financial need? Why does God not seem to answer my questions!!?

Habakkuk asked the same questions of God. He looked around & saw nothing but injustice. He was confused at the lack of action he saw in God.

And yet, at the end of the book we see the words in the passage above. He concludes that even if life is crumbling around him, God is enough. Even of there is not food to eat, God is enough. Even if we don't have food for strength, God is our strength & he is enough.

I need to return to this mantra. Life is not good when things are rainbows & butterflies. Life is not good when I'm free from discomfort. Life is not good when everything is going my way. Life is good when I am forced to thrust my everything on God. Life is good when HE is enough.

We are due to have a child in March. We are very excited but also nervous about it at the same time. There are so many things to be nervous about. But this passage reminds me, God is enough. We are so blessed financially but it will be tight & tough to pay for this kid (get used to it right?). And in the midst of all the fear & anxiousness, God is enough.

What is it that you are facing that seems overwhelming? What is so daunting you don't think you can make it? What's taken control of your thoughts & actions?

Give it to him. He is enough.

He was enough for Habakkuk.

He's enough for me.

He is enough for you.

He's enough. He's enough.
