Day 189/365- Psalm 94:9-11

"God sees it all"

Is he deaf—the one who made your ears? Is he blind—the one who formed your eyes? He punishes the nations—won't he also punish you? He knows everything—doesn't he also know what you are doing? The Lord knows people's thoughts; he knows they are worthless! (Psalm 94:9-11 NLT)

We live in a world of outright godless living. God has called us to engage this darkness with his light. We are to light up the world with the light of the world. But we don't just see this darkness in the world, it is thoroughly entrenched in the church.

I've been reminded of this recently with some friends I went to college with. I sit here writing this broken-hearted for where they are. I know of 5 Christian ministry majors that are not in ministry. In fact, three of them are living same sex lifestyles, one is facing charges for sexual sin, & one has recently had surgery becoming a woman instead of a man (he was married but divorced). I can't count the people I went to school with who are divorced.

Why do I bring this up? Am I better than them? Am I the poster child for perfection? Not even close. I bring this up to show the continued decline of our world & country. These are not just your average lost person. These men studied the Bible with me to become ministers of the gospel & now they are a shadow of the people I knew. These are ministry guys!

And as I watch all of this unfold in their lives I'm grieved by the people that are coming out in droves to support them. They say things like, "You be who you are no matter what people say" & "If they don't accept you like you are then they are not a true friend."

This is not what my Bible says. Proverbs 27:6 says, "Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy." In other words, true friends don't always agree & affirm you! Another Proverb says, "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another" (Proverbs 27:27). That means there is friction & pain & conflict all for our good! So, a friend sometimes has to say the hard things not out of hate or bigotry but out of love & concern.

This Psalm says that God sees everything we do & we are accountable to him. "He punishes the nations—won't he also punish you?" If God's word is true & he promises to hold us accountable for our sin, don't we have to run to others living in open sin & lovingly, broken-heartedly plead with them to repent? Wouldn't we want people to do the same for us?

And yet we live in a world where tolerance is the king of all attributes. It is to be desired above all things. But tolerance sends people to an eternity apart from Jesus.

We are accountably to God. He is not deaf, nor is he blind. He sees who we are & what we do & we will answer to him. Is there someone in our lives that we need to share this truth with & lovingly ask them to come to Jesus?
