Day 181/365- Isaiah 3:9

"Sin like Sodom"

The very look on their faces gives them away. They display their sin like the people of Sodom and don't even try to hide it.They are doomed! They have brought destruction upon themselves. (Isaiah 3:9 NLT)

Here in Isaiah 3 the Lord is talking about the "day of the Lord" when he will visit his people with wrath for their sins. He is describing the atmosphere of the day & what it is like. He is describing the depths of the people's sins. They no longer hide their sin in the dark but parade it around in the day. God compares them to Sodom & Gomorrah. Proud of their sin & wanting nothing more than to continue in it.

This passage speaks to the relevancy of the word of God. Today we have this very attitude prevalent in our world. What used to be done in the dark is now celebrates during the day. What used to be hidden is now publicly applauded. And if you don't applaud it, you are an old fashioned, Bible-thumping bigot!

Not even "God's people" are much different from this world. This attitude has made its way into the church & is now running rampant. Morality is a word that died with modernity. Morality is for old people & not progressives like us. And the shame of the matter is we aren't even grieved over our sin.

Where do we begin? Should we begin with pornography in the church & pulpit? Should we begin with the affirmation of sexual perversion as acceptable? Should we begin with divorce & it's damaging effects on Christian homes & the church much less our culture? We don't even have to start here.

We can start with today, June 29, 2012. A best-selling book is running riot in our country called "50 Shades of Gray" which I'm told is nothing more than pornography in written form. Women everywhere are soaking this trash up with little strain of conscience. What used to be done in the dark & hidden is now done in the light. A new movie out today called "Magic Mike" is about male stripping. And Christian woman I know are buying tickets to go see it. God help us! Who are we? What in the world are we doing? Are we even Christians? This reveals that lust is not just a male sin but a human one. Our culture is reaching such perverse depths that we are making movies now not about women stripping but men. What does that say about the sexual perversion of our day? What was done in the dark & hidden is now being done in the light! I can't even type the words "sin" & "lust" without my phone wanting to autocorrect them to "son" & "list". We don't even have place in our language for sin anymore.

God help us. Help us to see. Help us to repent. Help us to change. Help us to light up the dark & not curse it.
