Day 127/365- 1 Kings 2:2

"Going the Way of all the Earth"

"I am going where everyone on earth must someday go. Take courage and be a man." (1 Kings 2:2 NLT)

These are some of the last words of David the king. I love the fact that he tells Solomon to "be a man!" We need more dads telling their sons that.

What stood out to me most about today's reading though was the phrase "I am going where everyone on earth must someday go." This is a sobering reminder of our mortality. The statistic is still true that 1 out of every 1 person dies. We need to come face to face with this. Are we prepared for this day? What are we placing our hope in for this life that guarantees eternal life in the next? No one is exempt from this. We all will die & we all will give account of ourselves to God. What if that day was today? It's a sobering thought that we are always one breath away from eternity.

I can't help but imagine what David was feeling as his life was coming to a close. Surely he was considering his legacy. What did he leave behind? What will he be remembered for? What did he live his life for that truly made a lasting impact here?

These are good questions for us to consider. Is the life we are living making an impact? Are we leaving a lasting legacy? Are we making a difference? If not, it's not too late to change today!
