Day 93/365- Judges 7:2, 7

"300"

The Lord said to Gideon, "You have too many warriors with you. If I let all of you fight the Midianites, the Israelites will boast to me that they saved themselves by their own strength. The Lord told Gideon, "With these 300 men I will rescue you and give you victory over the Midianites. Send all the others home." (Judges 7:2, 7 NLT)

I'm pretty sure this is the only time in history where the commander of an army has said, "We have too many troops. If anyone is scared, just go home, we won't be needing you." Gideon was the weakest member of the weakest clan of a weak tribe. He started with thousands & when God was done he had 300 men to fight with. On top of this, they fought with clay pots & torches.

God is out to prove a point here. The outcome of the battle didn't depend on Gideon & his army. The outcome depended on God & his ability to fight for them. The outcome was decided before the battle ever began.

This is reassuring for us. We can rest assured that the battle does not depend on us. We are not the source of the victory. It's not about our effort or our ability or our numbers. It's not about the skills we were born with or the resources we have acquired. It's not about the family we came from or how much money we have in our bank account. In this life, it's great to know that we can walk in victory because it's already been won. The victory was purchased before our battle began. It doesn't depend on our fighting or our winning but that Christ has won. He purchased the victory on the cross. All we have to do is be like Gideon & his 300 & walk in it!
