Day 107/365- Psalm 57:1

"Context is King"

Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy! I look to you for protection.
I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings until the danger passes by. (Psalm 57:1 NLT)

Three & a half months into the chronological Bible & I've seen the Bible from a different angle. Hebrews talks about the Bible being living & active & that's exactly what a person feels if they have read it for any length of time.

The Bible engages us.

It changes us.

It challenges us.

It's not just black ink on white paper, it's alive! It not only deals with our actions. It gets below our actions. It goes deeper. It engages our motives & thoughts. It gets to the thing under the thing under the thing. Nothing else in the world can do this.

I've read the Bible through a few times in the last few years but it seems so fresh every time. The great benefit from reading it chronologically is seeing every book in context. Psalms in the context from which they were written are extremely powerful. Knowing David wrote this Psalm when he was running for his life gives it more depth & meaning. It's powerful to consider these Psalms in context. It speaks so clearly. It speaks to us today right where we are in our lives.

This is why we must keep reading the Bible during our whole lives. It must be a lifelong engagement. Year after year we see a depth to it. Year after year it speaks to us. We may have read a passage 100 times but it's been different every time we have read it. Since sanctification is a lifelong process, the Bible must be read for our whole lives.
