"The World's Worst Committee Meeting"
These are the territories that Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the tribal leaders allocated as grants of land to the tribes of Israel by casting sacred lots in the presence of the Lord at the entrance of the Tabernacle at Shiloh. So the division of the land was completed. (Joshua 19:51 NLT)
The allocation of the land could have been the world's worst committee meeting. Think what would have happened had the people been responsible for choosing their own allotment. Think of the fighting, jockeying for position, & the outright selfishness that could have ensued. Joshua was very discerning in coming to the Lord for such a decision. It was in God's presence that the land was distributed.
Sometimes I wish this type of decisions making resource was available. A place where leaders could go to cast lots in the presence of the Lord & come out with his answer. But this is not the case. Decisions are not always black & white. Decisions are not always clear cut & easy. What are we to do with these difficult, possibly even conflict-ridden decisions?
We cannot rely upon casting lots but instead we must rely on the Holy Spirit of God & His Word he has given us. Not every decisions will be crystal clear but if we follow the Word & the leading of the Spirit, God promises to give us wisdom. James 1 says, "If any man lacks wisdom, let him ask of God." God is our source for wisdom & the one we should depend on with every decision.
