Day 82/365- Joshua 1:2

"God Doesn't Need Another Moses"

"Moses my servant is dead. Therefore, the time has come for you to lead these people, the Israelites, across the Jordan River into the land I am giving them. (Joshua 1:2 NLT)

"The time has come." I wonder if those were the words that Joshua wanted to hear. I wonder if he ever thought he would see this day. I wonder if he thought Moses would lead the people forever.

What in the world was he thinking? Moses is dead & now it's your turn to lead. No pressure filling those shoes! God only used him to facilitate 10 plagues, write down 10 commandments, part the red sea, & lead hundreds of thousands of people for God. Again, no pressure.

What's amazing is what God tells Joshua. He tells him that he has nothing to fear. God will be with him like he was with Moses. See, what made Moses great wasn't Moses. Remember the burning bush & how he told God one excuse after another for why he was not fit to be a leader? Remember Moses the murderer? What made Moses great was not Moses. What made Moses great was God. And the same God that was with Moses was going to be with Joshua.

I'm not sure if you have ever thought like this before but I have. "God, I could never be like _________. I'm not as talented, don't have the same leadership potential, can't have the same impact, etc." We often compare ourselves to others in order to determine our kingdom usefulness when God has made us, gifted us, & uniquely positioned us to be, well, us. God was not interested in having Moses 2.

See, we can have confidence in what God is calling us to because it doesn't depend on us but on him. His presence was what made all the difference. And God promises to be with us to the end of the age. What's holding us back from doing what God has called us to? What excuse do we need to lay down? God doesn't need another Moses, he already has one of those.
