Then the Lord told Moses.....(Exodus 6:1 NLT)
The next step. What if that's all it meant to follow Jesus? What if our walk with him was about taking one step at a time? We think it's much bigger than this. It usually includes an elaborate chart with circles & how God's will is found only in the center. Something like that.
For Moses, he never got the 5 or 10 year plan. He never got the ins & outs of God's will. All he got was the next step. Over & over in the book of Exodus we see this phrase, "Then the Lord told Moses."
This is actually quite common in the Bible. God told Abraham to leave his country & go where God told him. That's all the details he got. Just take the next step.
Psalm 119:105 says, "Your Word is a lamp unto my feet & a light unto my path." When people would walk in the dark they would tie a light to there feet so that they could see the step in front of them. As they take one step, the next one is revealed.
One.
Step.
At a time.
When it comes to our walk with God what matters most is the next step. Not what's gong to happen in 5 or 10 years. What is the Lord calling us to do today? I'm not saying we don't need to plan or think about what the Lord wants for us in the future. We should. But the pattern for Moses was to just take the next step.
What is the next step that God is calling you to? It can be overwhelming to try to do everything that we think that the Lord wants us to do. What is that one thing today, that next step for us in obedience to him?
