Day 2/365- Genesis 4-6 part 2

Genesis 4:7, "Sin is crouching at your door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it & be it's master."

When it comes to sin there are two options: us mastering it or it mastering us. There is no in between. The Lord warns Cain before he ever murders his brother that sin wants to master him. He gives him a clear warning that sin is not something to be played with but rather something to be mastered.

"If you play with fire, you will get burned."

If we want to see the effects of sin & how it masters all that it touches all we have to do is look at the cross. If Jesus had to die such an excruciating death, the sin he died to atone for must be as wretched as the payment.

Paul said the same thing in Romans 7:21, "So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand." Satan come to kill, steal, & destroy. We do not live in a peace time but rather a war time. We have to be ready at all times when it comes to sin. It is not something to play with but rather something that must be crucified with Jesus.
There is a progression with Cain. He doesn't start with murder. He starts with poor worship. His sin progresses to murder because of his cold-heartedness & lack of repentance when confronted by God.
Psalm 1 shows this progression very well. "Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers."
It easy to break stride when you are walking. Just more out of the way. It's harder to move out of the way when you are standing. It's very difficult to move out of the way when you are sitting. When it comes to sin, we may start out walking with it. Soon, however, we will find ourselves standing with it & before you know it we will be sitting with us.

What is it that we are walking with?

What is it that we are standing with?

What is it that we are sitting with?

"Sin is crouching at your door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it & be it's master."
