"They did not repent"
Everyone was burned by this blast of heat, and they cursed the name of God, who had control over all these plagues. They did not repent of their sins and turn to God and give him glory. (Revelation 16:9 NLT)
In this passage in Revelation we see the wrath of God being poured out. God's justice had been held back on the wicked but now it is being unleashed without reservation.
The wicked respond by cursing the name of God instead of repenting. It seems the response God desired was repentance of sin & turning back to him. And this is always God's heart. "God wishes that none should perish but all to come to repentance." But they refuse to give God glory & instead curse his name.
And these are the two options when faced with the correction of God. We can curse his name or give him glory. When faced with unpleasant circumstances many people curse God but those that know him give him glory. Our response shows us our hearts.
When faced with difficulty, do we turn to God or away from him? Do we turn to him for comfort or curse him for our discomfort? Do we praise him or reject him?
This shows if we know Jesus or not. It could be that our difficult circumstances are God's grace to draw us to himself. How are we responding?
