"Everyone needs correcting"
You must teach these things and encourage the believers to do them. You have the authority to correct them when necessary, so don’t let anyone disregard what you say. (Titus 2:15 NLT)
We live in an entitled age. Everyone is entitled to what they want, when they want it. But the body of Christ is different, or at least it should be.
We shouldn't always get what we want. We need people in our lives in the body of Christ who can encourage us & yes, sometimes correct us. This is what Paul is encouraging young pastor Titus to do. He is encouraging him to correct his people when they need correcting.
At some point or another, no matter how godly we may be, we all need to be corrected. If we are not being corrected then it's not because we aren't wrong but because we haven't given anyone the chance to speak truth into our lives. If people always only agree with us & everything we do, something is wrong. We are not infallible. We are not inerrant. We are imperfect & at times need to be flat out rebuked! Not so that we will be discouraged but so that we can be more like Jesus.
Who in your life has the ability to correct you? Who speaks the truth into our lives? Would we even listen if approached about an area of our life that needs to change?
Change is hard & painful & no one likes to be corrected. But in the family of God we have to be humble enough to receive correction, knowing in the long run this is for our benefit & holiness.
