"More than you can stand"
The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. (1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT)
I often hear the phrase, "God will not give you more than you can stand." I think this passage is often referred to in that statement. The meaning is often about our circumstances. But this passage is about temptation & not so much about circumstances.
In temptation, God will always provide a way out that we can stand under it. We are not tempted beyond what is common to man or even Jesus endured. There is always a way out.
Similarly, I think God routinely gives us more than we can handle so that we will stop trying to live life on our own. We are extremely individualistic & with that comes independence. In order to show us the futility of this, God will give us more than we can handle so that we must depend on him.
When it comes to our lives, if we think we can handle it, we normally do. It's the things we feel like we can't handle that we give to God.
Therefore, we must live our lives daily in dependence on God. Not just in the stuff we think we can't handle, because all of life is something we can't adequately handle.
