"Difficulty is opportunity"
But the believers who were scattered preached the Good News about Jesus wherever they went. (Acts 8:4 NLT)
Just a few chapters back in the book of Acts we saw the believers praying for boldness to share the gospel & not for protection in the face of strong persecution. Similarly, the persecution of the church has led to the spread of the gospel. Instead of seeing persecution as a negative, they seem to view it as an opportunity to tell others outside of Jerusalem about Jesus. This seems to be God's plan all along. Would they have stayed in Jerusalem without it? We can't say for sure.
As Philip goes, he shares the gospel. I love this picture. He doesn't wait for visitation on Tuesday night or a mission trip, he just shares Jesus as he goes.
We often turn introspective during difficulty but this passage challenges us to turn outward. We should use our difficulties as an opportunity to share the good news about Jesus. What could be a better testimony to our lost friends than how we respond in difficulty? I'm not saying we don't struggle, grieve, or mourn but we do this with hope & by sharing the hope we have. God may be giving us opportunities to share the gospel that we normally wouldn't have otherwise.
As we go, in whatever life's circumstances or geography, we should seek to share Jesus. In the good & bad, as we are going, we have a chance to share the life-altering news of our Savior!
