Day 272/365 (part 2)-John 4:20

"Holy Distractions"

So tell me, why is it that you Jews insist that Jerusalem is the only place of worship, while we Samaritans claim it is here at Mount Gerizim, where our ancestors worshiped?" (John 4:20 NLT)

Much can be said about the woman at the well. Jesus went through Samaria which was a Jewish no no. He reached out to those that others wouldn't. He also confront her about her sin, right to her face. It's this part of their conversation that persuades her to believe in Jesus. Jesus also tells us that he gets his life-giving energy from doing God's will. That's his food. Lots of truth & application here for us.

But something that stood out in particular was the response this woman gives Jesus when he tells her about her sin. She says, "I perceive you are a prophet," & with her new found knowledge, she asks a theological question of Jesus. He answers in part but quickly brings the conversation back to himself.

And I see in this exchange a pattern for us when sharing Jesus with people. Stay focused on Jesus. Whether it's cults or world religions or just plain lost people, keep the focus on Jesus. Give them the gospel. Don't be derailed by theological rabbits. Stay on Jesus. Don't get bogged down in the minute details of religion. Give them Jesus.

This is what Jesus did, & it's what we must do as well.
