"Stop going to church"
"How I wish one of you would shut the Temple doors so that these worthless sacrifices could not be offered! I am not pleased with you," says the Lord of Heaven's Armies, "and I will not accept your offerings. (Malachi 1:10 NLT)
Every one of us at some point in our lives deals with the mystery surrounding God. Why does he do what he does? What is he really up to? What does he really mean?
There is no mystery here.
God clearly tells them to stop going to church. Well, at least that's what it would mean for us.
The people were bringing unacceptable offerings to God. Lame animals & defective sacrifices. God basically says he would rather not suffer through their worship if they are just going to give him their leftovers. He literally says, "Shut your doors!"
We see the value God has in our leftovers. None. God is not interested in our Sunday mornings if he doesn't have our Tuesday evenings. If God doesn't have our Monday-Saturday, what good is acting different on Sunday? It's no good at all. We might as well stay home & sleep in.
God deserves our best, our lives. He is worthy of our firsts, not our lasts. He wants priority in our lives not just whatever we have left to give. God wants full custody not just weekend visitation.
Where do we give God our leftovers? What is holding us back from giving all to him? Isn't it time to lay it down?
