Day 244/365- Ezekiel 37:4-5

"Resurrection Power"

Then he said to me, "Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. (Ezekiel 37:4, 5 ESV)

Ezekiel is a book of mystery. Not only is it full of mystery but it also begins in a hopeless situation. Ezekiel prophesied during the exile when God disciplined his people by allowing them to be taken captive. Jerusalem was destroyed in the process as well as the temple.

An yet all throughout the book another theme is seen: hope. God promises to crush his people but also to restore them. He has punished them for years of rebellion but he will heal them. He has sent them into exile but he will bring them back.

One of the most dynamic displays of this theme of hope is this passage about the valley of dry bones. God makes not just bones live again but dry bones! These people have been dead a long time. God shows that he doesn't just have power, he has resurrection power.

And this is what we most need. We don't need to be made better we need to be brought to life. Coming to Jesus & finding hope for our hopelessness in him is not a self-help method but a resurrection! We need to be made new. We need to be made alive. And only Jesus gives resurrection life.
