Day 140/365- Psalm 79:9-10

"For the Glory of Your Name"

Help us, O God of our salvation!
Help us for the glory of your name.
Save us and forgive our sins for the honor of your name. Why should pagan nations be allowed to scoff, asking, "Where is their God?" (Psalm 79:9-10 NLT)

The glory of God's name is not only to be our passion in all things but it is his passion as well. God is passionate about his glory! It is his & our greatest pursuit, even above our own lives.

Here the Psalmist asks for God's help not primarily so that the people can be helped but because God's name & reputation is at stake. His first thought is not about his own comfort or needs but the name of God. Not that God is not interested in their needs. But his primary focus is God's glory.

When we consider our needs & desires, where does God's glory factor in? Or, a better question may be, does it even factor in? We think about our wants & needs but do we think about God's name? Are we motivated by what brings him glory first?

The next time we ask God for something or have a decision to make let's make the glory of God the primary focus of our request. We know it's primary to him!
