"Will You Remember Me?"
But forty years after the Israelites left Egypt, on the first day of the eleventh month, Moses addressed the people of Israel, telling them everything the Lord had commanded him to say. (Deuteronomy 1:3 NLT)
Moses is recounting the journey of the Israelites. He is taking about all that the Lord has done & all that they have done. He reminds them about God's faithfulness & their often lack of faithfulness. This is key for them to remember & will be crucial as they enter the land that God has promised them. God works, moves, & displays himself in such clear ways they need to remember who he is & what he has done.
We do often forget about God's faithfulness & character. We let the worries of today cast shadows on the past & a haziness on the future. It is always good for us to take time to reflect on all that the Lord has done for us & is to us. It is his faithfulness & character that gives us hope for the future.
When we fail to remember we are often doomed to see history repeat itself. God's faithfulness to us in the past & present should equip us to continually be shaped into who he want us to be in the future. God has been faithful, he is faithful, & he will be faithful.
What's great about this is, our past failure is not the emphasis. Our mistakes are not the crucial part of remembering. God's grace, love, & faithfulness to us is the hero. This is what we most need to keep in mind as we face each day in the future!
