Day 65/365- Numbers 21:5

"Leading a People Going Nowhere"

"And they began to speak against God and Moses. "Why have you brought us out of Egypt to die here in the wilderness?" they complained. "There is nothing to eat here and nothing to drink. And we hate this horrible manna!" (Numbers 21:5 NLT)

God has told his people that because of their rebellion against him they would be forced to wander the wilderness for 40 years. They would wander the wilderness until everyone who was older than 20 years old at the time died. Moses is forced to deal with the constant complaints & likely bitterness that this people were feeling from not being able to enjoy God's blessing of the promised land. What was it like to lead a people going nowhere?

Moses' position describes many in leadership today, especially church leadership. Many pastors feel like they are leading a people going nowhere. All they do is field complaints & endure bitterness. God hasn't called or allowed all pastors & church leaders to pastor the 2,500 member mega church that is on mission with him. Sometimes God calls leaders to lead a people that may not be going anywhere. Or at least it seems that way. God may be calling you to endure the "40 years" with them & with long suffering lead them into going somewhere. Whatever the case, be encouraged, Moses has walked a mile in your shoes.
