Day 59/365- Numbers 5:31

"Your sins will find you out"

The husband will be innocent of any guilt in this matter, but his wife will be held accountable for her sin." (Numbers 5:31 NLT)

This is a weird scene. If a husband suspects his wife of being unfaithful the Lord has provided a way for them to determine her guilt or innocence. By this way they can determine if she has sinned since she wasn't caught in the act.

There is a principle here that cannot be ignored. Although the method seems strange to us in 2012, the principle is a haunting one. Just because we are not caught in the act of sin doesn't mean that it won't be found out. In fact, secret sins are never really secret because sooner or later in some way or another our sin will find us out. Even if no one else knows about these secret sins, God knows, and it will all be brought to the light. We know for sure that in the end when we all are judged that our sins will be brought to light. But even now, there may be consequences that we can't even imagine. It may be years later that sin is finally discovered or made clear. Or, it could display itself in anger or bitterness or some other fruit of the root issue. However it makes its way to the surface one way or another & we can be sure that our sin will find us out (Number 32:23).

What sinful patterns have we established in our lives that we think are not affecting us? What secret sins do we think we are "getting away with?" What is it that we are doing alone that we think isn't affecting anyone but us while, in fact, will have drastic consequences in the future?

This passage is a sobering reminder that sin never affects just us. It always affects others & it will always come to the light. Let's repent now & bring it to the light on our own so that it's not forced into the light & with it our condemnation.
