Day 55/365- Leviticus 23:3

"Unplugged"

"You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of complete rest, an official day for holy assembly. It is the Lord 's Sabbath day, and it must be observed wherever you live. (Leviticus 23:3 NLT)

God gave his people a day off, a day to rest. A day to take a break from the everyday rigors of life. God even set the example for them to follow. The God that never gets tired or sleeps rested. If he saw the need to rest, what implication does this have for our lives?

In our world of ieverythings, it's hard to take a break. It's hard to unplug. It's hard to rest in the midst of laundry, ball games, meetings, raising kids, & anything & everything else we have to do. We have hundreds of online relationships through social media to keep up with. Needless to say, our world is overloaded.

The Sabbath is often misunderstood, often misapplied, often under-appreciated, & often-under observed. We would do well to consider God's heart for his people in this. We need time away, time to rest , time to unplug. God even says a couple of chapters later that the fields need to rest. Rest is a part of life just like work. We need to take advantage of God's provision of rest for us.

Turn off the TV & connect with our spouse or kids. Turn off the phone & enjoy the silence. Go for a walk, run, bike ride, or hike. Spend time with friends. Spend some extended time with God. Unplug from this world for a while. I guarantee you, it will be there when you get back & no one will fall apart without you.
