"The Naked Truth"
"Do not practice homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman. It is a detestable sin. (Leviticus 18:22 NLT)
I really don't want to open a can of worms here. I really don't. With that said, I find an attitude in myself & in the church that I think the Lord wants to address.
The Bible is clear, homosexuality is a sin. Here in Leviticus & other places in the Bible, namely Romans 1, the Bible leaves no doubt. Homosexuality is not God's heart or design for his creation. It is a perversion of his best for us.
All that said, it is not the only perversion. Leviticus addresses several sinful attitude & actions in the 27 chapters of the book. Some include beasteality, adultery, & inappropriate sexual relationships with relatives. Leviticus also reveals God's heart about perverting justice as well as perverting worship.
The reality is, our hearts are full of wickedness in & out of the church. Statistically speaking, there is little difference between the church & the world when it comes to morality. According to Relevant magazine, 650,000 of the 1 million abortions this past year in the United States were by "Christians". Relevant also reports that 80% of Christians in their 20s are sexually active outside of marriage.

So, while I agree that the Bible teaches that homosexuality is wrong, I also believe that the way I have lived & the way the church has lived as well is wrong. We are all morally broken.
Leviticus is about God's people being made right with him not about the world being made right with him. There are implications that lost people can take from Leviticus & can see the gospel there & be driven to Christ. But, primarily God is after his people & their holiness. This had always been God's heart.
When God looks to clean house, he never starts with the world, he starts with his people. Second Chronicles 7:14 says, "If MY people...will turn from their wicked ways." Not if "those" people but if MY people. Jesus doesn't clear out the whore house in the first century he clears the temple. He loves & accepts prostitutes but can't seem to get along with the religious leaders.
My point is, all sin is wrong & against God & must be repented of! Maybe we, the church, should consider the log in our own eye before looking at the speck in the world's eye. Maybe if we let Jesus clean up our lives we would have more credibility with those that need him so desperately. Maybe then we could light up the darkness instead of merely cursing it.
